Anders Udd (born 1958), Appliances
Signed and dated, 2012-23, acrylic on canvas.
Anders Udd (b. 1958) is a Swedish contemporary painter known for his atmospheric, photorealistic works that capture moments of stillness, light, and quiet tension. Working from his own photographs, Udd strips away unnecessary detail to create compositions that feel both deeply familiar and subtly mysterious. His paintings often depict urban scenes, interiors, and landscapes suspended in silence, where light itself becomes the central subject.
Educated at Nyckelviksskolan, Idun Lovén Art School, and the Nordic Art School in Finland, Udd has exhibited extensively across Sweden and internationally, including exhibitions in Stockholm, Malmö, The Hague, and Helsinki. His work has received recognition through multiple grants from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
Often associated with the tradition of Scandinavian realism, Udd’s paintings balance precision with emotion, transforming ordinary scenes into contemplative studies of mood, absence, and human presence.
